Hello.......
*disclaimer - this blog contains a very awesome song, please click the play button*
This is obviously my first blog, so don't take me too seriously. Approximately 146 new blog will be made (including this) because this blog is part of my holiday homework.
So I will talk about music, a very special genre that most people find it "hateful", "violence", "satanic" and the list go on. Some even say something like this, "That is not a music, it's just noise". If you still don't know what genre it is... I don't know what to say. It's metal. Metal is still actually a big genre, there are sub genre like nu-metal, death metal, metal core, doom metal, grind-core, folk metal and more. But I just wan't to focus on metal, because even I can't distinguish between the sub genre.
So let see some picture first.
So the dude above is Tom Araya, the vocalist and bass player for one of the most badass band out there, SLAYER!!!!!!!!
The picture speaks for it self.....
I don't know how did people see metal music as satanic and stuff like that, it's sad when youth nowadays listen to pop music. It's not because I hate pop, it is because the song. Most of pop song nowadays are based on sex, alcohol, drugs. And gosh, the music video is just women wearing as less shirt as possible, dancing or doing stupid things. But somehow kids listen to them and either their parents allow or didn't realize the song brings bad influence.
This is one of the metal song which is definitely no satanic, violent and bring bad influence. The Stage by Avenged Sevenfold (watch it here). This is the lyric. Be sure to watch the music video too, the song is very deep if you study it.

So I arrived, naked and cold
A welcomed change from the abeyance of a ghost town catacomb
No need for counsel, I appreciate the time I’m not alone
(Why don’t you get my lawyer on the phone?)
There were days these child eyes
Would overlook the ugliness and fantasize
I found my heart for the first time and I awakened in me
I left myself to navigate… and oh I felt control
(It seems these sheep have quite an appetite)
Who is the crowd that peers through the cage,
As we perform here upon the stage?
As the boy became a man
In came a calm sophistication I can hardly understand
So lost in ego, didn’t notice when the time had slipped away
(Yeah, everybody’s got a sob story)
Jesus Christ was born to die
Leave it to man to levitate his own to idolize
We’re simply sociopaths with no communication baby
I see your angle but we differ from our points of view
(So tell me, what’s your cross to bear?)
Who is the crowd that peers through the cage,
As we perform here upon the stage?
Tell me a lie in a beautiful way
I believe in answers, just not today
Hope my wheels don’t abandon me now,
Seeing that I’m out here alone
I’m running out of fight
And the wind speaks a comforting voice,
Guiding me to her arms
Mother, I’m alright
It took the birth of sin to snake-rattle the mind
Before a blow to the head by the gavel of time
To wake up
Won’t you wake up?
When did the walking apes decide that nuclear war
Was the only solution for them keeping the score?
Just wake up
Can’t you wake up?
(You do know this is just a simulation, don’t you?)

I think the song is about the situation in the world now and they are trying to give a message.
"There were days these child eyes
Would overlook the ugliness and fantasize"
Would overlook the ugliness and fantasize"
Like I said, the world is filled with terrible stuff but either the parents didn't realize what their kids is doing or the allow them. I'm too lazy to search for photo but you can definitely see it by yourself.
This is the best part.
"Who is the crowd that peers through the cage,
As we perform here upon the stage?Tell me a lie in a beautiful way
I believe in answers, just not today"
It describe the "crowd" as the person with higher rank or richer. As you can see, this is a picture from the music video.
As you can see here, the "crowd" is the two group of generals which they are drinking while "we" is the soldiers suffering in the battlefield. Also there is a scene at ancient time where a king is standing on a big rock while using a whip to hurt a man who is moving the rock, slavery i guess.
And another best part,
"It took the birth of sin to snake-rattle the mind
Before a blow to the head by the gavel of timeTo wake up
Won’t you wake up?
When did the walking apes decide that nuclear war
Was the only solution for them keeping the score?
Just wake up
Can’t you wake up?"
I didn't understand the first line, but the other is definitely about reminding people. As we can see now, big countries such as America, Russia and China are racing to build their best nuclear bomb. It's only a matter of time until the the bomb start to learn to fly. Like in the World War 2, where Americans uses nuclear bomb to "keep their score".
There are lots of good metal song which has nothing to do with violence, sex or satan. Stricken by Disturbed is about love (love and sex has a big difference), Panic Attack by Dream Theater is just basically about panick attack, hahahaha. The Trooper by Iron Maiden is a song based on the Crimean war (British vs Russia), the band Iron Maiden is originated form British by the way. You can also see some simmilarities with the poet "Charge Of The Light Brigade"
Okay, enough about song. So the thing I get from listening to metal is I now can play guitar and I've learned lots of new words.
I find that lots of metal song have long lyric and doesn't keep repeating the same (like most songs nowadays) and they sometimes uses unique words, or it is just me not exposed to English enough. So this is a quick list. Note that I didn't search the internet for the definition, this is the knowledge I gain when I search for the meaning when I hear them a few moth back.
- Stricken - Stricken by Disturbed, Something that is torn, can refer to cloth or feelings
- Reprisal - Raining Blood by Slayer, Counter-attack
- In vain - Layla by Derek and The Dominos, wasted
- Consolation - Layla by Derek and The Dominos, pujuk
- Misogyny - Insane by Korn, the feeling of hate to a women
- Agony - Atrocity Vendor by Salyer, mental suffering
- Petrified - Panic Attack by Dream Theater, Scared
- Decadence - Moth Into Flame by Metallica, behavior of low morality
There is more but I forgot. I listen to metal and when I meet words that I don't know, I used to ignore it. But when time is approaching the oral test for IGCSE, I searched it all. Thank god.
And yeah, about the guitar. I played piano when I was about 7. But after a while I got bored and stop going to class. Then my piano teacher keep telling to my parents that I stopped because I always got scold, not true. I do enjoy playing, but I see no reason for me to continue learning. Last year (2015) when I discover metal, I quickly interested to play guitar because the song is so good. The guitar solo is the best part, try checking out guitar solo from the song Fear Of The Dark by Iron Maiden. So I bought my first electric guitar about the middle of 2016, and now I can play 6 songs, and other cool guitar solo and riffs. The thing that made me proud is that I learn to play alone, without going to classes or anything. I only rely on the internet and my will power, it's a good thing because it's hard to learn guitar and I still manage to learn and not give up.
That's all. Bye.
